Race a Marlin 5EXi in 2008 - Castle Combe Special GT Championship
Marlin Sports Cars History
Marlin Sports Cars was founded 27 years ago starting from very humble beginnings in Plymouth, Devon. The original range of cars were primarily aimed at the Trials and Touring market and as a testament to their build quality, many of those early cars are still running today.
The company took a significant change in direction 17 years ago when it was re-launched by Mark and Terry Matthews and their first design was the 1930’s styled Sportster which brought Marlin into the performance car market. Based on a BMW drivetrain, a large number of Sportsters have been sold over the years and built to incredibly high standards. In addition, minor changes produced a race version of the car which has been campaigned in Hill climbs, Sprints and the 750 Motor Club Kit Car Championship. As a result of Marlin’s re-focused development on track days and circuit racing, the 5EXi was born!
The 5EXi is a lightweight, mid engined sports car available for road or track use.
Four years ago, the car made its debut in a 750MC Championship but due to their stringent technical regulations, development was limited. This all changed in 2007 when Marlin Racing decided to compete in the Castle Combe Special GT Championship. With much more scope for improvement, the cars have progressed significantly with lap times having been lowered by over five seconds; and all this in our first season – so watch this space!
